Moving to Woodlawn CDP (Fairfax County) with kids -good idea?
Been meaning to ask this. Just moved here 4 months ago and The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $309,200 on average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Would love some local perspective. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Raleigh it's challenging.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 15 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Bought a house here in 2018 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
