Not sure if this has been asked before, but Been living here since 2020. Median household income is $73,615, which feels about average for the area. Poverty rate is 11.7%, which is around average. The median home value here is around $187,000, which is actually reasonable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Anyone in a similar situation? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely underrated and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (The Heights) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Maple Ridge area are tough. Kids love it here.
