Anyone else feel this way? My partner and I are Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. Homes are going for about $345,200 on average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What do you all think?

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

Came here for weather and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The public transit is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Midtown. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 3 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 3 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is average.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Hope this helps!.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is average in most areas.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 7 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a lawyer, 44, moved here 14 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The outdoor recreation situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for remote workers. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $100K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
