Career opportunities in Woodstock, IL

Hey folks, I've been here for 4 years and Household incomes average around $83,293 in Woodstock. Poverty rate is 5.8%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $231,100 on average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. Thoughts? Looking forward to hearing from you all. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 53, moved here 12 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Highland and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The walkability situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for young professionals. underrated vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is decent in most areas.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 12 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..
