Hi all, I'm retired and Median household income is $51,140, which feels on the lower side for the area. Homes are going for about $553,700 on average. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Am I wrong here? Cheers. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is tough in most areas.

Used to live on the Eastside side, now on the The Heights side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
- The community vibe scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.
