Poverty rate is 16.2%, which is higher than I expected. Crime rate is something to consider -Woodville sits at 120.2 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 2,884 people. Average temperature is around 66--F, so the weather is moderate. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Any advice would be great. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much pricey but now it's better than expected.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 32, moved here 5 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Midtown and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Affordable housing options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The housing market situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Highland) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 10 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Bought a house here in 2016 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is improving in most areas.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Dallas it's challenging.

I've lived in Fairview for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- The school system scene is decent
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. No regrets on my end..
