So, I'm a remote worker and Average temperature is around 51°F, so expect cold winters. Median household income is $67,544, which feels about average for the area. Homes are going for about $339,500 on average. The median home value here is around $339,500, which seems about average. It's a a mid-size city city with about 206K people. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Charlotte about 15 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is solid.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 15 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 51, moved here 11 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Midtown and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Low crime in most neighborhoods
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The dating scene situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Minneapolis about 15 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is excellent.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..
