Is Worcester a good place to retire?

My wife and I are planning to retire in the next few years. We're considering Worcester because of being near family. Weather is moderate — about 51F average.

Cost of living looks pretty reasonable. How's the healthcare situation? Any retiree communities?

Coming from Philadelphia, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are about the same.

Traffic is the worst part honestly. But if you live near work it's fine.

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.

I'd add that healthcare options are better than most cities this size. Otherwise spot on!

I've lived in Riverside for 5 years and it's a hidden gem honestly.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Maple Heights and Riverside are perfectly safe.

If you can afford it, Riverside is the best place to live. Period.

The job market has been improving lately. Several logistics companies moved in recently.

Respectfully disagree about the job market. In my experience, it's been pretty safe in my area.

Rent tip: look for places in January-February. Prices drop and there's more availability.

My kids love it here. So many parks and activities. Great value for the money.
