Random thought, Homes are going for about $339,500 on average. Median household income is $67,544, which feels about average for the area. Household incomes average around $67,544 in Worcester. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. What neighborhoods would you suggest? It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 9 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Midtown for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Affordable housing options
- The food scene scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (The Heights) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in West. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Definitely worth checking out..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Seattle about 12 years ago. The main reasons were weather and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is tough.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've lived in Eastside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- The cultural scene scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
