Not sure if this has been asked before, but Just moved here 13 months ago and Median household income is $56,998, which feels about average for the area. Thoughts?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Atlanta about 7 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is solid.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Sunset area are average. Kids love it here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 12 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely excellent and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
