Random thought, I'm single, late 50s, and You can expect to pay around $1,153 for rent here. Rent is about $1,153/month for a decent place. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Am I overthinking this?

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely challenging and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (The Heights) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a accountant and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is excellent and there's always something going on.
