Remote worker thinking about Wyndham

Anyone else feel this way? My family moved here when I was a kid. With a population of 12,084, Wyndham is a small town. The median home value here is around $673,200, which is pretty steep. You can expect to pay around $2,076 for rent here. Homes are going for about $673,200 on average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. Am I wrong here? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Cedar Grove for 14 years. Moved from Houston for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Cedar Grove schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited entertainment options. Bugs and humidity in summer. And dating scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 7/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Used to live on the Oak Park side, now on the Cedar Grove side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Tampa about 5 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 53, moved here 7 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Riverside and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The weather situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for families. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $60K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely excellent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (The Heights) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.
