Hi all, I'm a college student here and The unemployment rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. The suburbs are where most families end up. What would you do? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

I've lived in Highland for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Four distinct seasons
- The outdoor recreation scene is decent
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Happy to answer more specific questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..
