Commute times in Yakima -how bad?
First post here. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Denver about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Eastside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- The public transit scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
