Quick question about Yakima

Hey folks, It's a a smaller city city with about 96,810 people. You can expect to pay around $1,075 for rent here. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What would you do? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in finance. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much growing but now it's pretty good.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Miami it's better than expected.

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is cultural scene. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in South for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The dating scene scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited high-paying job options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Used to live on the Downtown side, now on the Midtown side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I've lived in Downtown for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Close to major attractions
- The cost of living scene is solid

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited high-paying job options

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Sunset) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. No regrets on my end..

I'm a HR manager and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely excellent and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Westside) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
