Raising a family in Yakima -thoughts?

Poverty rate is 12.1%, which is around average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Minneapolis about 11 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is decent.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
