Yakima is underrated, change my mind

Hey, I'm a college student here and Median household income is $59,228, which feels about average for the area. Household incomes average around $59,228 in Yakima. You can expect to pay around $1,075 for rent here. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Anyone in a similar situation? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 4 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 1 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Happy to answer more specific questions..
