Unpopular opinion about Yankton

First post here. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 58, moved here 7 years ago from LA. I've lived in Springfield and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The food scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for retirees. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The public transit is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..
