Best neighborhoods to rent in Yonkers?

Hey everyone, Born and raised here. Crime rate is something to consider — Yonkers sits at 353.9 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Should I be concerned? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Midtown. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in real estate. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in The Heights. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in real estate. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 51, moved here 7 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Uptown and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited shopping options
3. The nightlife situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for singles. decent vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 7 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Can feel isolated. And dating scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 8/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
