Is Yonkers worth moving to in 2026?

Hi all, I'm retired and The weather takes some getting used to. Any advice would be great.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I'm a sales manager and I've found I love the pace of life here. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely decent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
