What Yonkers does better than anywhere else

Poverty rate is 11.6%, which is around average. The median home value here is around $478,000, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 55°F, so expect cold winters. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Worth the trade-offs? Appreciate any input. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much competitive but now it's solid.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 29, moved here 6 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Old Town and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The outdoor recreation situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for couples. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in Meadowbrook area are excellent. Kids love it here.

Used to live on the Highland side, now on the Meadowbrook side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 10 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Springfield for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The outdoor recreation scene is average

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Westside for 4 years. Moved from Chicago for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Dating scene is rough. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
