Been meaning to ask this. I work in energy and Poverty rate is 13.2%, which is around average. It's a a smaller city city with about 69,545 people. The median home value here is around $405,900, which is pretty steep. Rent is about $1,391/month for a decent place. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.
Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Close to nature
- Easy commute
- Good airport connections
Cons:
- Limited dining options
- Lack of diversity
- Few job opportunities in some fields
Let me know your thoughts. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The school system is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

The food scene here is better than expected. Tons of great Thai places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in West. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in retail. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 15 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Old Town. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely underrated and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Riverside) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Highland) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Midtown for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- The safety scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Riverside. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in finance. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
