Alright, I'm a teacher here and You can expect to pay around $1,073 for rent here. Average temperature is around 72--F, so it's warm year-round. It's a a small town city with about 5,422 people. The unemployment rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What would you do? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Lakewood. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in construction. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 14 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into running, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The walkability is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
