In 1974, It became a State Mental Hospital under the Department of Public Welfare and closed in 1982. While it was a TB hospital and sanitarium, over 2,000 deaths have been reported in numerous obituaries, the dept of public welfare closed the hospital because of out-dated medical practices where many died during operations. there were also reports of severe abuse to patients and multiple suicides.
