Hey folks, I work in construction and Crime rate is something to consider -Albany sits at 757.0 per 100K. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Has anyone dealt with this? Cheers. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 15 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Boston it's challenging.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in consulting. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
