Been meaning to ask this. The median home value here is around $223,000, which is actually reasonable. Crime rate is something to consider -Albany sits at 757.0 per 100K. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Has anyone dealt with this? TIA! The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Portland about 12 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Nashville about 10 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are growing, gas is challenging.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.
