Cheapest neighborhoods in Albany?

OK so It's a a mid-size city city with about 100K people. Poverty rate is 13.1%, which is around average. Crime rate is something to consider -Albany sits at 757.0 per 100K. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Low crime in most areas
- Close to nature
- Low taxes
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Not very walkable
- High property taxes
- Poor road conditions
Worth the trade-offs? The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is cost of living. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Midtown for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Close to major attractions
- The outdoor recreation scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in West. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in retail. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 33, moved here 4 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Eastside and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The cost of living situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for retirees. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
