Been meaning to ask this. I've been here for 2 years and Rent is about $1,178/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Albany sits at 757.0 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. Would love some local perspective. TIA!

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Springfield. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if healthcare matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
