Crime rate is something to consider -Altoona sits at 607.9 per 100K. Poverty rate is 13.9%, which is around average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Should I be concerned? TIA! The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Eastside. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in education. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Definitely worth checking out..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
