Not sure if this has been asked before, but Just moved here 1 months ago and It's a a small town city with about 12,796 people. With a population of 12,796, Amherst is a small town. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. The median home value here is around $222,700, which is actually reasonable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What are your go-to spots?

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely solid and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Downtown) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The housing market is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..
