What to expect moving to Amherst?

My partner and I are Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. Crime rate is something to consider -Amherst sits at 32.9 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 8 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..
