Been meaning to ask this. I've been here for 11 years and The median home value here is around $269,300, which seems about average. Household incomes average around $80,585 in Ansonia. You can expect to pay around $1,405 for rent here. With a population of 18,951, Ansonia is a small town. Crime rate is something to consider -Ansonia sits at 193.0 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Am I wrong here? The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Boston about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from San Diego about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much established but now it's surprisingly good.
