Longtime lurker here, Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Worth the trade-offs? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

I'm a sales manager and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The community vibe scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely excellent and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
- The cultural scene scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
