First post here. My family moved here when I was a kid. Rent is about $2,043/month for a decent place. Median household income is $141,440, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's a a smaller city city with about 46,015 people. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Anyone in a similar situation? Thanks! Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Tampa about 9 years ago. The main reasons were school and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are established, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much developing but now it's decent.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Eastside. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in engineering. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The public transit is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..
