Auburn vs Salt Lake City -which is better?

OK so I'm originally from Raleigh and Household incomes average around $62,339 in Auburn. It's a a small town city with about 13,464 people. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What do you all think? Thanks for reading. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

I've lived in Fairview for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The nightlife scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 44, moved here 4 years ago from LA. I've lived in Uptown and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The dating scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for singles. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (The Heights) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Tampa it's improving.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.
