What surprised you most about Auburn?

Longtime lurker here, My family moved here when I was a kid. Poverty rate is 9.0%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 13,464 people. Homes are going for about $172,800 on average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Friendly people
- Low taxes
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Cold winters
- Lack of diversity
Any help is appreciated. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Hope this helps!.
