Random thought, Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Thanks for reading. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I've lived in The Heights for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The cost of living scene is decent
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Midtown) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
