Couple moving to Baton Rouge from out of state

First post here. You can expect to pay around $1,044 for rent here. The median home value here is around $224,500, which is actually reasonable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
