Thinking about relocating to Beaver Dam from Dallas

My family moved here when I was a kid. Median household income is $47,256, which feels on the lower side for the area. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Would love some local perspective. Thanks for reading. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

The food scene here is pretty good. Tons of great Korean places. I love the pace of life here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 11 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely average and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Sunset) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
