Rent in Bessemer getting crazy
We have two kids and Household incomes average around $37,844 in Bessemer. It's a a smaller city city with about 25,655 people. Poverty rate is 23.9%, which is higher than I expected. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to.
Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Friendly people
- Low crime in most areas
- Easy commute
- Walkable downtown
Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- Not very walkable
- Boring for young people
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Limited cultural events
What do you all think? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.
