Alright, My family moved here when I was a kid. The median home value here is around $203,200, which is actually reasonable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Has anyone dealt with this?

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for family and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The traffic is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 12 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Lakewood area are tough. Kids love it here.

I'm a project manager and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is pretty good and there's always something going on.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Charlotte about 10 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are stable, gas is average.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Downtown. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in real estate. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Eastside for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- The weather scene is tough
The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for family and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The community vibe is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
