Been meaning to ask this. We're a young couple and Crime rate is something to consider — Birmingham sits at 1,588.3 per 100K. Poverty rate is 19.4%, which is higher than I expected. The unemployment rate is 3.5%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $44,376, which feels on the lower side for the area. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Any advice would be great. TIA! It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.
