Worst things about Birmingham nobody talks about

First post here. We're a young couple and The median home value here is around $138,600, which is actually reasonable. Poverty rate is 19.4%, which is higher than I expected. With a population of 199K, Birmingham is a mid-size city. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Am I overthinking this? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 8 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
