Curious what people think. You can expect to pay around $2,340 for rent here. It's a a small town city with about 5,678 people. Rent is about $2,340/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $776,400, which is pretty steep. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Would love some local perspective. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Meadowbrook. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in government. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. No regrets on my end..

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Lakewood. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Sunset for 11 years. Moved from Miami for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
tech is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Limited entertainment options. And community vibe can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 5/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely excellent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Highland) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
