Crime rate is something to consider -Blauvelt sits at 485.5 per 100K. Poverty rate is 5.3%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $172,083, which feels pretty solid for the area. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. Am I wrong here? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The weather is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely excellent and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Fairview) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Phoenix about 15 years ago. The main reasons were weather and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are growing, gas is average.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Hope this helps!.
