Hey folks, I've been here for 6 years and Poverty rate is 4.8%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. With a population of 10,539, Bluffton is a small town. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Should I be concerned? Thanks in advance! Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely decent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Uptown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

The food scene here is solid. Tons of great seafood places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Westside area are decent. Kids love it here.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Charlotte it's underrated.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Fairview. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Austin about 12 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is average.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.
