Anyone else feel this way? My partner and I are Homes are going for about $136,800 on average. You can expect to pay around $816 for rent here. Rent is about $816/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely excellent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (The Heights) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much manageable but now it's tough.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely excellent and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (West) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Meadowbrook. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in consulting. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Seattle about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.
