Is Brown Deer still affordable?

Random thought, I relocated for work and Median household income is $91,567, which feels pretty solid for the area. Poverty rate is 6.2%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Definitely worth checking out..

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Greenfield area are underrated. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 4 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've been here 14 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is underrated.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Nashville about 14 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is underrated.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. No regrets on my end..

I've been here 3 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is tough in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely decent and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
