Hey, I work in consulting and Average temperature is around 68--F, so the weather is moderate. Rent is about $1,281/month for a decent place. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Should I be concerned?

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Phoenix it's challenging.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Minneapolis about 6 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is solid.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in The Heights for 3 years. Moved from San Diego for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is average - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Rising rent and home prices. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 7/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The traffic is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The walkability is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options
- The weather scene is improving
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'm a accountant and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.
