Hi all, I'm a college student here and With a population of 17,611, Calhoun is a small town. You can expect to pay around $785 for rent here. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Should I be concerned? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Denver about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is excellent.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Used to live on the Lakewood side, now on the East side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Worth doing your research before committing.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is solid in most areas.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
